The Clay Experience: workshop for adults and children together. This fun experience using 100 pounds of clay enables everyone to create freely while not owning the product. Participants constantly moving around the circle of clay changing it by adding or taking away the work in front of them to make it their own, if only temporarily, until the next builder arrives at the same spot. It is very freeing not to be attached to the end product. There is immense enjoyment mushing the clay at the end of the project and putting it back into the box with only a few photographs to document the process. The experience is designed to build confidence while having the opportunity to be creative without others judging their contributions.
This popular workshop was presented in classes at the University of British Columbia (education dept.) as well as professional development programs in the lower mainland. Little Mountain Neighbourhood House provided funding by the neighbourhood Small Grants Project and the Vancouver Foundation for the experience to be enjoyed several times in their community.
The workshop was also experienced by the students enrolled in The Transition Program, a Vancouver School Board program for gifted high school students entering university at an early age conducted at the University of British Columbia campus.
